Kochi: New Kochi Metro Rail Ltd (KMRL) managing director G Priyanka on Saturday ordered traffic relief measures at key stretches like Palarivattom where the second phase construction works are progressing.

Kochi Metro’s Phase II, branded as the ‘Pink Line’, involves an 11.2-km stretch, featuring 11 elevated stations, including Palarivattom, Alinchuvadu, Vazhakkala, Padamugal, Kakkanad Junction, and SmartCity. Priyanka, also the district collector, inspected the construction sites stretching from Jawaharlal Nehru (JLN) Stadium station to Kakkanad SmartCity. She instructed officials to coordinate with regional transport office to address severe traffic congestion at Palarivattom (near St Martin’s Church), Alinchuvadu, and Vazhakkala. To restore smooth vehicle movement, authorities were directed to safely remove temporary construction barricades wherever possible without compromising safety standards. Priyanka also ordered relevant authorities to expedite land acquisition and civil procedures to begin constructing the right-side station structures at proposed stops in Palarivattom and Padamugal. Additionally, utility providers, including the Kerala State Electricity Board, public works department, and Kerala Water Authority, were instructed to complete utility shifting and related preparatory tasks without delay. Once operational, the Pink Line will significantly cut commute times for tens of thousands of IT professionals, reduce road congestion along the busy Civil Station Road, and establish seamless connectivity across Kochi.
