On Thursday, Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis, along with his deputies Eknath Shinde and Sunetra Pawar, participated in the celebrations marking the birth anniversary of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj at Shivneri Fort. This event highlights the ongoing recognition of Shivaji Maharaj’s historical significance in Maharashtra’s cultural and political landscape.

It is one of the 12 Maratha forts on UNESCO’s World Heritage list. Fadnavis said, “Prime Minister Narendra Modi nominated 12 forts of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj, and 27 countries unanimously voted in favour to include them under UNESCO’s World Heritage Sites. After receiving complaints, the state govt announced a drive to clear encroachments on forts.

Fadnavis said, “We are committed to clearing all encroachments on all forts in Maharashtra . Deputy chief minister Eknath Shinde said modern India is on the path of inclusive growth practised by Shivaji Maharaj. Along with Maharaj, the forts he built have worldwide recognition. As part of this effort, all forts in Pune district are free of illegal structures. When many kings surrendered to the Mughals, he established Swarajya by taking people from every community along with him. “He set an example of an ideal society where no section was neglected. If we continue to follow his path, our country will be a world leader,” he added.
