Meerut: Six people, including two infant siblings, were killed and four others injured when a sand-laden dumper rammed a passenger tempo on Agra-Moradabad national highway in Bahjoi police station area in UP’s Sambhal district on Sunday morning.
The front portion of the tempo got mangled, trapping the driver inside while the dumper hit a roadside tree and overturned after the accident, which happened around 9 am near Bamneta village, barely 2 km from the district headquarters. Police said Bahjoi resident Bhavna (29), wife of Tarun, was travelling to Chandausi with her son Dhruv and daughter Aradhya.
SP Vikas Chandra Tripathi said the accident took place on Bahjoi-Chandausi road and further legal action will follow. Local residents rushed to the spot and pulled the injured to the roadside. Police arrived soon and sent the injured to Bahjoi Community Health Centre, where doctors declared four of them dead. Bhavna and her brother Puneet are in critical condition. The dumper driver fled, and a search is on to trace him.
