Residents said the prolonged outage affected essential household activities, including pumping water and operating kitchen appliances such as mixers and grinders. Though the shutdown was supposed to start at 10am, to everyone’s surprise, it started at 9am, causing a lot of inconvenience to many people. The shutdown, scheduled on a holiday, caused considerable inconvenience to residents, particularly homemakers and those who had planned to complete household chores during the day. Power supply was disrupted in several areas namely Gokulam, Vijayanagar I and II Stages, Hinkal, Yadavagiri, Vontikoppal, Jayalakshmipuram, Saraswathipuram and Vidyaranyapuram. Adding to citizens woes, CESC authorities and central complaint system was unresponsive. Shopkeepers, small business operators and customers dependent on digital payment systems also faced difficulties during the outage. Residents expressed displeasure over the timing of the maintenance work, questioning the decision to schedule an extended power shutdown on a Sunday, when many people are at home and rely on electricity for household and other essential activities.
