Lucknow: The UP Police is preparing to revise the duty schedule of personnel deployed on four-wheeler police response vehicles (PRVs) under UP-112, with a proposal to introduce three eight-hour shifts instead of the existing two-shift system. The UP-112 headquarters has asked police commissionerates and districts to assess the proposal and take a decision according to their local requirements. UP-112 provides emergency assistance to people round the clock, making it essential for personnel deployed on PRVs to remain alert and responsive throughout their duty hours. Personnel working with the emergency response service were recently provided training on the new system and technology being introduced to strengthen the service, according to directions issued by the UP-112 headquarters. DG UP 112 Binod Kumar Singh said thar the proposed change is part of efforts to strengthen the state’s emergency response mechanism and ensure that police personnel attending distress calls remain sufficiently alert throughout their deployment.
The move is aimed at reducing fatigue among PRV personnel and improving their alertness, efficiency and response time while attending emergency calls. The headquarters has maintained that an eight-hour shift would provide police personnel with adequate time for rest between duties. Better-rested personnel, officials believe, would be able to perform their responsibilities more effectively and remain more alert while responding to emergency calls. The proposal is particularly significant for PRV personnel, whose duties involve continuous movement, responding to emergency calls and reaching incident locations within the shortest possible time.
