The TVK government's gold ring scheme launch has been postponed

The TVK government’s gold ring scheme launch has been postponed.

When asked whether the scheme would be launched on September 25, the minister said the government would officially announce the date soon. The scheme, originally scheduled to be launched on September 15, will provide a one-gram gold ring to eligible newborns delivered at government hospitals. It covers babies born from June 22, 2026. The minister said the government would ensure the quality of the gold rings, adding that only 916-hallmarked gold would be accepted after testing.

The delay is due to the chief minister’s foreign travel, he said. The scheme is likely to be launched at Usilampatti in Madurai, he added.
