Attachment Attachment Attachment Attachment Attachment Attachment Attachment Attachment Varanasi: A scommemorative ceremony was held at Dhamupur village in Ghazipur district on Thursday to mark the 61st martyrdom anniversary of Company Quartermaster Havildar Abdul Hamid, Param Vir Chakra (Posthumous), the legendary soldier of 4 Grenadiers who laid down his life during the Indo-Pak War of 1965. The ceremony was attended by the General Officer Commanding, Eastern Uttar Pradesh and Madhya Pradesh Sub Area; the Commandant, 39 Gorkha Training Centre; Honorary Captain Yogendra Singh Yadav, Param Vir Chakra (Retired); senior military officers; serving personnel; veterans; civil dignitaries; and members of the martyr’s family. A native of Dhamupur village in Ghazipur district, CQMH Abdul Hamid served with 4 Grenadiers. On Sep 10, 1965, during the Battle of Asal Uttar in the Khem Karan Sector, enemy forces launched a major armored assault led by Patton tanks. Amid intense enemy fire, CQMH Abdul Hamid took up a highly vulnerable but tactically crucial position with his jeep-mounted 106 mm recoilless rifle.
