Nashik : State govt has granted administrative approval for a Rs 344-crore road development project connecting Nashik more directly to Nagpur-Mumbai Samruddhi Expressway through a new interchange at Borkhind in Sinnar taluka, making it the district’s fourth access point to the corridor. The approval covers a 9.3km road linking Dubere and Bhagur via Pandhurli, along with the Borkhind connector near Pandhurli village. PWD Nashik superintendent engineer Devendra Pawar said, “The project has been planned to provide easier access to the expressway for Nashik residents. “The approval also covers retaining walls, plantation, paver blocks, bus shelters, utility shifting, land acquisition, beautification works, RCC and unlined drains, murrum shoulders and road safety measures,” an official said. Officials said the new Borkhind connector will provide a more convenient route and streamline access from Nashik to Mumbai, reducing travel hassles and improving connectivity.
Authorities have been directed to obtain forest and environmental clearances, complete land acquisition, verify safety provisions and expedite the tendering process. At present, Nashik motorists travelling towards Mumbai via the Samruddhi Expressway largely depend on the Igatpuri connector, about 45km away, or the Bharvir Khurd interchange accessed through narrow rural roads. Officials said the project will help ease traffic on major highways and strengthen overall traffic management in the region. The new link is expected to play a key role during the Simhastha Kumbh Mela by improving connectivity between the Dubere-Sonari belt, Bhagur and the Samruddhi Mahamarg. The works include earthwork, road strengthening, macadamisation, asphalt surfacing and concrete road construction. Infrastructure planned under the project comprises four major bridges, four minor bridges with approach roads, seven vehicular underpasses, five box culverts and two pipe culverts.
