iOS 27 lets your number follow you between two iPhones, for a monthly fee
T-Mobile is charging $5 a month, roughly Rs 440, for the privilege. Deutsche Telekom does not bill for iPhone Handoff on its own, folding it into the MultiSIM service that costs €6.95 a month as an add-on and comes bundled with some plans. Both phones need iOS 27 and the same Apple ID. That makes it useful for anyone juggling a work and personal handset, or running an iPhone Duo alongside an iPhone 18 Pro.
Apple’s support page keeps it vague and says carrier fees might apply. After that, unlocking either handset throws up a “Switched to this iPhone” banner to confirm which one holds the number. The catch is that it needs carrier support, and only two operators have it ready on day one. Deutsche Telekom in Germany and T-Mobile in the US are the launch partners, with Verizon and EE due by the end of the year and more operators expected after that. No Indian carrier has been named so far, so the feature stays out of reach here for now. Where it does work, the pricing is not uniform. Setup runs from Cellular in Settings on the second iPhone, using Set up Cellular or Add eSIM and then the transfer option. Only one iPhone can be live at a time. iPhone Handoff Launches with iOS 27
Apple will introduce the iPhone Handoff feature with the release of iOS 27 on September 14. This feature allows users to link a single phone number to two iPhones, enabling seamless switching between devices. At the recent event on September 9, Kaiann Drance, Apple’s vice president of iPhone product marketing, confirmed that the number becomes instantly active on whichever iPhone is picked up by the user.
