Apple is set to introduce two new models of the Apple Pencil in 2024, coinciding with the launch of the latest iPad Pro. According to a report by Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman, the first model, known as B582, will be an updated version of the entry-level Apple Pencil. This iteration will feature USB Type-C charging, moving away from the previous wireless charging method. The second model, referred to as B632, will refresh the Apple Pencil Pro, which was first released in 2024 alongside the M4 iPad Pro.
Current Apple Pencils are notoriously difficult to repair due to glued-together parts.
Apple alleges that OpenAI improperly obtained its confidential trade secrets while building its consumer AI hardware efforts, according to the lawsuit. A major focus for Apple’s hardware teams is meeting European Union regulations requiring consumer electronics to have more easily replaceable batteries. The upcoming models may feature new battery systems designed to improve repairability, reduce costs, and align with sustainability goals. Last week, Apple filed a lawsuit against ChatGPT-maker OpenAI. The complaint claims OpenAI hired several former Apple employees, including senior hardware executives, and alleges that confidential information related to Apple’s hardware development was used to accelerate competing products.
