Nashik Municipal Corporation Calls for Release of Pending Grants Ahead of Kumbh Mela
Nashik Municipal Corporation (NMC) has formally requested the state government to release outstanding grants totaling Rs 344 crore under the 1% local body cess (LBC). This appeal comes as the corporation faces increasing financial pressure while preparing for the upcoming 2027 Simhastha Kumbh Mela.
Civic officials emphasized that the delay in funding is particularly concerning as it coincides with the execution of crucial road, infrastructure, and public utility projects necessary for the event.
Under the revenue-sharing arrangement, property buyers pay 6% stamp duty during property registration. the remaining 1% is collected as LBC and transferred to municipal corporations for development works While 5% is retained by state govt. “Around Rs 150 crore was collected under the 1% LBC in Nashik during 2025-26, but the corporation received only Rs 122 crore, leaving Rs 28 crore unpaid for that year. With dues dating back to 2019-20 still pending, the cumulative arrears have increased significantly,” a civic official said.
