“For many, CCM is the last resort… but then some are lucky like my brother,” said Arshpreet Singh, who came with a barely 5% chance of survival. “This is a place filled with hope,” he said. Suleiman, whose son recovered at CCM, said: “This is a place filled with positivity. Every doctor, nurse, attendant who saw my child told him that you will be fine… and this is a rare virtue. “I asked my brother to take me to a better place, but he told me that morgue was the next stoppage… and this is surely better than that,” he said, making the audience burst into laughter. Rishi Yadav, who was barely six when he landed at CCM, said: “I don’t remember days in CCM… but as a child I hated them… when my parents told me to thank the doctors, I rebuked and questioned… for what? PGI director Prof Radha Krishan Dhiman said: “With the department’s round-the-clock service to people and society, the glimmer of hope remains alive.
Deeply indebted to doctors, support staff and employees, many plainly owed their ‘navjeevan’ to SGPGI while listing their reasons. Thanks to every person who cared for me… I don’t even remember the names of some of them. Pricking me? But now I know that even the pain given by the doctors here is worth your life. Though we give our best to all, survivors are the reasons that make our daily work worthwhile. The institute felicitated the survivors, their attendants, staff members and doctors on the occasion. Durga Prasad Mishra, who lived in CCM for almost three months, said: “About a year ago I weighed about 82Kg… but an unexpected infection pushed me towards death… I weighed about 38Kg by the time I reached here… Today, I weigh about 58Kg which speaks immensely for my recovery.
