On Monday, Kanpur experienced several spells of afternoon rain, providing only temporary relief from the oppressive heat. Despite the rainfall occurring for the third consecutive day, the maximum temperature in the city increased slightly compared to the previous day. The intermittent showers failed to significantly alleviate the overall sultry conditions.
The CSA weather observatory recorded the maximum temperature at 34.2°C, 0.6°C higher than Sunday. The feel temperature, however, hovered around 37°C, while the minimum temperature dipped to 24.4°C.
CSA weather expert S N Sunil Pandey said cloud movement over the next three days could trigger localised thunderstorms accompanied by gusty winds and light rain or drizzle. The weather briefly turned pleasant in parts of South Kanpur after pocket showers, but the respite was short-lived. After widespread rainfall across the city on Saturday and Sunday, Monday saw showers confined to a few pockets, particularly in parts of South Kanpur.
The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecast mainly clear and sunny weather across all districts of the Kanpur division over the next 24 hours. With the probability of rainfall estimated at 0-15%, heat and high humidity are likely to persist. The maximum temperature is likely to remain between 34°C and 35°C, while the minimum may be around 27°C. Northeasterly winds are expected to blow at 4-5 mph.
In Kanpur Nagar and Kanpur Dehat, bright sunshine is expected throughout the day.
