Isolated places may receive heavy rain from Wednesday to Friday
Kochi: While forecasting light to moderate rain in the coming days, India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a yellow alert for heavy rain from Wednesday to Friday.
IMD has also reported that from Tuesday till Friday, isolated areas in Keralam may experience thunderstorms along with strong winds reaching 30–40 kmph. Keralam is still experiencing deficiency in seasonal rainfall with 27% shortfall between June 1 and Sept 22. Remaining face shortfalls of above 25% each, with Wayanad and Idukki recording 54% and 45% respectively.

The rain is the result of a well-marked low-pressure area intensifying into a depression in Bay of Bengal which is expected to become a deep depression and move towards Andhra Pradesh and Odisha coast. In Keralam, light to moderate rainfall is expected till Saturday. Isolated places may receive heavy rain from Wednesday to Friday. Only six districts — Kannur, Kasaragod, Kottayam, Pathanamthitta and Thiruvanthapuram — have recorded normal rainfall so far. Download the TOI App.
On Wednesday, Kasaragod, Kannur, Idukki, Kottayam, Pathanamthitta, Kollam and Thiruvananthapuram will be on yellow alert. IMD said the depression may make landfall as a deep depression between the north Andhra Pradesh and south Odisha coasts — between Visakhapatnam and Gopalpur — on Wednesday night or Thursday morning.
