Starting October 1, the Maharashtra State Road Transport Corporation (MSRTC) will require all senior citizens, including those classified as Amrit senior citizens, and women who receive fare discounts to utilize the National Common Mobility Card for their travel. This initiative aims to streamline fare collection and enhance the efficiency of public transport services in the state.
MUMBAI: The Maharashtra State Road Transport Corporation (MSRTC) has announced that from October 1, the National Common Mobility Card (NCMC) will be mandatory for senior citizens, Amrit senior citizens and women passengers availing themselves of various fare concession schemes. For those awaiting their physical cards, the QR code-enabled registration receipt will remain valid for 30 days when scanned on the conductor’s Electronic Ticketing Machine (ETM). MSRTC has urged all eligible senior citizens and women passengers to complete their NCMC registration before October 1 to ensure uninterrupted, transparent and hassle-free travel.
Alternative provisions have also been introduced for beneficiaries who face difficulties with biometric fingerprint authentication on their identity cards. The move aims to streamline and digitise travel concessions on state transport buses. Card registration and distribution have already begun at bus stations and depots across the state. Passengers who have an active NCMC card or a registration receipt with a QR code will be eligible for discounted tickets. During this period, passengers must activate and top up their NCMC cards. MSRTC has partnered with E-Bix Technologies Limited as the authorised agency to manage card registration at bus stands and designated centres. Passengers can top up their cards by scanning the QR code on the back using the BHIM app. They can complete the registration process using an OTP sent to their linked mobile number.
