Ex-MP Sanjaykaka Patil staged a day-long dharna at Sangli to raise drought related demands on Friday
The dam currently holds 94 TMC of water out of its total storage capacity of 105 TMC. “A stock of 67.50 TMC is reserved for power generation. Because the water released for it flows into the sea, hydroelectric power generation using Koyna’s water should be stopped immediately. Because they do not meet technical criteria in the official rulebook, “Some talukas were excluded simply.
Given the unprecedented water crisis, every drop should be utilised for drinking purposes—both for humans and livestock—as well as for irrigating fields and saving standing crops,” Patil said. There is a surging demand for water tankers and fodder, and the govt must meet these needs without delay,” Patil said. Patil noted that a similar situation prevails across all ten talukas of Sangli district. I appeal to the authorities to visit the fields, inspect the condition of crops and cattle, observe how people are living, and then declare drought.
Ending his day-long sit-in, he warned that he would launch street agitations if the government failed to act on his demands.
