A large crowd took part in the Hindu Maha Ganapati Shobhayatra in Chitradurga on Saturday

The procession began around 12.30pm after high court advocate Arun Shyam offered a floral tribute and culminated at Kanaka Circle.

Organisers said the widening of the procession route helped ease crowding compared with previous years. The idol was later immersed in a specially constructed well at Chandravalli. Thousands of devotees from Bengaluru, Vijayanagara, Davanagere, Tumakuru, Ballari, Shivamogga, Hassan and Haveri districts witnessed the procession. Five DJs accompanied the procession, drawing large groups of youngsters who danced along the route. Police, however, stopped the DJ music around 6pm. Police made elaborate security arrangements along the route.
