Koppal : Eligible candidates from Kalyana Karnataka are up in arms over being restricted to just 31 of the 247 Group-A principal posts in govt pre-university colleges, denying them a chance to compete for the remaining posts under the Residual Parent Cadre (RPC). The Karnataka school education department has invited applications from eligible serving lecturers in govt PU colleges to fill 247 principal posts through a competitive examination conducted by Karnataka Examinations Authority (KEA). candidates from the region can apply only for the 31 local-cadre posts While 31 posts are earmarked for the Kalyana Karnataka local cadre and 216 for RPC. The restriction has drawn objections from state resource person, South India Consumer Coordination Committee vice-president and Kalyana Karnataka Implementation Committee working president E Dhanaraj, who questioned whether it conforms to Article 371-J reservation provisions. Dhanaraj said earmarking 31 posts for the local cadre and 216 for RPC was appropriate, but restricting candidates at the application stage was not. He urged govt to allow eligible Kalyana Karnataka candidates to apply for all 247 posts, select candidates on merit and then consider those who remain for local-cadre posts. Several eligible lecturers, who did not wish to be named, also questioned the examination policy, saying it runs contrary to the basic objective of Article 371-J. Eligibility criteria require applicants to be serving lecturers in govt PU colleges with at least 10 years of service and satisfactory completion of the prescribed probationary period.

He said the restriction denies meritorious candidates from Kalyana Karnataka an opportunity to compete for state-cadre posts. This is regrettable,” he said. Despite possessing the required qualifications, candidates from Kalyana Karnataka are being denied an opportunity to compete under the state quota, they said.

“Our candidates have once again failed to make fair use of opportunities available outside Kalyana Karnataka based on their eligibility. There is no age-limit restriction for applicants.

With the online application deadline set for Oct 4, eligible candidates will have to appear for a competitive examination in MCQ format covering three subjects. The demand is to allow Kalyana Karnataka candidates to compete for all 247 posts on merit, with unsuccessful candidates subsequently considered for posts reserved under the local cadre.
