318kg ganja seized from fish container truck in Tuticorin, three held
They arrested T T Joshuvaganaraj alias Aadhi, 47, of Tiruvallur district; Thanvel, 51; and Yadala Srinivas Kalyan, 24, both from Andhra Pradesh.
A search of the truck led to the recovery of 318kg of ganja concealed in packets, police said. Acting on a tip-off about the movement of the contraband, a police team led by OCIU (organised crime intelligence unit) inspector Venkatesh conducted intensive vehicle checks in Puliyankulam. During the operation, police intercepted a car, which was escorting and guiding a fish-laden container truck from Andhra Pradesh travelling behind it. Police seized the ganja, the car and the container truck. The arrested men, seized contraband and the vehicles were subsequently handed over by the OCIU team to the Kovilpatti prohibition enforcement wing (PEW) for further legal action. Police are investigating the source of the ganja, its intended destination and whether more people were involved in the alleged smuggling network.
