Food safety checks across Navratri venues

The emergence of CCTV footage has added a fresh dimension to the case

Ahmedabad : The health and food department of Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation (AMC) has announced a citywide food safety drive during Navratri , with teams set to inspect food stalls, Garba venues, residential societies, party plots and clubs to ensure compliance with food safety regulations. Officials warned that food stalls operating without valid FSSAI licences or registrations will be sealed.

In an appeal issued on Saturday, the department urged organisers and food vendors to strictly follow the provisions of the Food Safety and Standards Act, 2006, to ensure hygienic and safe food for festival-goers. Officials reiterated that an FSSAI licence or registration is mandatory for operating a food business under Section 31 of the Food Safety and Standards Act. The civic body has asked all Garba and society organisers to allot stalls only to vendors holding valid FSSAI licences or registrations and ensure that registration numbers are prominently displayed at food stalls.
