Taxi
The 31-year-old officer was on duty at the airport’s arrival entry checkpoint around 11.30pm on Friday when he stopped a taxi for inspection, according to a complaint lodged with Airport police on Saturday.
The complainant told police that the driver threatened him and warned him against preventing the vehicle from proceeding. As the vehicle was not carrying any passengers, he asked the driver to turn back. The driver allegedly argued with the officer and attempted to enter despite being stopped. Fearing the situation could escalate, the officer called the police. However, the taxi drivers allegedly left before police personnel reached the spot. Two of the officer’s colleagues who were passing through the area intervened and rescued him. Police were summoned and the injured officer was taken to Civil Hospital.
Airport police have registered a case against six persons and are investigating both the alleged assault and the earlier altercation at the airport entry checkpoint.
