Jan 5, 2027, has been fixed as the census reference date, followed by a revision round until Jan 9. Residents will be able to submit household details through the self enumeration portal between Nov 16 and Nov 30 after which they will receive a self enumeration ID (SEID). Enumerators visiting homes from Dec 1 to Jan 4, 2027, will verify the submitted information using the SEID.

Director and chief principal census officer Sheetal Verma said the census is a critical national exercise and stressed that every enumerator should be assigned workload as per prescribed norms. She directed CDOs to ensure timely deployment of additional personnel wherever the estimated population exceeds the standard limit and to regularly review preparations at the district level. Officials were asked to promote the digital self enumeration facility in local languages.
