BJP MLA Surendra Maithani challaned for driving two-wheeler without helmet
Minister Swatantra Dev Singh walked about 1.5 kilometres carrying a torch, while Vidhan Sabha Speaker Satish Mahana and MP Ramesh Awasthi also carried torches.
Maithani said the motorcycle belonged to a party worker and that he forgot to wear his helmet amid the enthusiasm of the programme. He said the fine had been deposited, adding that the law was equal for everyone and traffic rules must be followed. The yatra, held under BJP’s Seva Sankalp Abhiyan, began at Phoolbagh and concluded at the Bharat Mata statue at Ghantaghar, passing through Birhana Road and Nayaganj. Traders welcomed the procession at Nayaganj, and Singh visited Baba Shri Nageshwar Maharaj temple.
Before the march, leaders garlanded Pandit Deendayal Upadhyay’s statue, and recorded addresses by Prime Minister Narendra Modi and BJP president Nitin Nabeen were screened.
