Private schools caught between protest and dialogue: The wider industry impact

Ahmedabad : Private school managements across Gujarat are facing uncertainty after two major school associations adopted contrasting strategies over pending demands and recently introduced education reforms.

The organisation has particularly objected to provisions of the Gujarat Secondary and Higher Secondary Education (Amendment) Bill, 2026, claiming some of its provisions should not apply to private schools. These include the Education Amendment Bill-2026, FRC regulations, RTE reimbursement, administrative autonomy of schools, simplification of compliance requirements, a student-parent code of conduct and staff safety.

The Swanirbhar Shala Sanchalak Mahamandal said repeated representations to the education department and govt had failed to bring about any positive outcome. The differing positions adopted by the two major associations have left private school operators across the state unsure whether to join the non-cooperation movement or wait for a negotiated resolution through talks with govt.
