The $5.35 million estate in Bratenahl, near Cleveland, has drawn attention since Kelce bought it through an LLC earlier this year. The 21,000-square-foot property includes eight bedrooms, 11 bathrooms and a guest cottage overlooking Lake Erie. Bolton said she had been quoted $75,000 to reinforce it against possible root intrusion.
“Planting 50 evergreen trees just ten feet from a 100-year-old clay sewer line is virtually guaranteed to cause severe root intrusion, pipe structural failure and catastrophic sewage backups,” Bolton told the meeting, citing research she conducted using artificial intelligence. “I think that the greater security threat for the applicant is from drones and the water,” he said, urging the village to consider those risks. Taylor Swift and Travis Kelce’s new Ohio property has become the centre of a growing dispute, with neighbors raising concerns about plans to improve privacy around the sprawling lakefront estate. What began as a disagreement over fencing and landscaping has expanded into a much wider clash involving wildlife, security, access and an ageing sewer line shared with a nearby home. Local residents say they fear the proposed changes could create problems long after the couple’s plans for the property are complete. At a recent Architectural Review Board meeting, neighbors questioned the couple’s plans for a six-foot black aluminium fence and extensive landscaping. One resident, Katherine Bolton, focused on an old clay sewer pipe shared by the neighboring properties. She claimed planting dozens of evergreen trees close to the line could allow roots to damage the ageing pipe. The concerns highlight a difficult balance between the privacy expected at a celebrity-owned property and the practical needs of longtime residents. Other objections centred on the fence itself. Neighbor Chuck Bauernschmidt questioned whether its pointed design could pose a danger to deer moving through the area. Village official Mary Ranney acknowledged that deer can occasionally become caught on fence points. Security also became part of the discussion. Bill Bolton, Katherine’s husband and a former village council president, argued that a fence alone would not necessarily stop determined intruders or paparazzi.

The couple’s construction team said they had already made several compromises. The original proposal called for an eight-foot fence stretching around much of the property. The final plan reduced its height, moved it further inside the boundary and stopped it short of the lake. For now, the landscaping dispute remains unresolved. Some planting plans were approved with conditions, while a proposed shoreline screen was rejected, meaning another review will be required before the work can move ahead.
