Residents of Kadur village in Rattihalli taluk in Haveri district staged an unusual protest for drinking water by tying a cow inside the gram panchayat PDO’s office premises on Thursday evening

Haveri: Residents of Kadur village in Rattihalli taluk tied a cow inside the panchayat development officer’s (PDO) office Thursday evening to protest a prolonged drinking water shortage affecting 20 to 25 households behind the Maradi area. Rural drinking water scheme engineer Siddalingaswamy Hiremath reached the spot and told the villagers that officials would make proper water supply arrangements within 10 to 12 days.

With the shortage affecting daily life and leaving livestock without adequate water, residents said that if the authorities could not supply water, they should at least feed and care for their cattle. They alleged that repeated oral appeals and a written application submitted a year ago drew no response. After learning of the protest, Haveri zilla panchayat chief executive officer Daljeet Kumar directed officials to visit Kadur and resolve the issue immediately. Following the assurance, the villagers withdrew the protest, untied the cow and returned home. Rangappa Makari, Channappa Doddamani, Siddappa Kurubar, Appanna Kurubar, Bireppa Goggad and others participated in the protest.
