Shopify, the e-commerce major faced a widespread outage on Cyber Monday (December 1). Due to the major outage thousands of merchants were not able to process orders during the peak holiday traffic. Shopify also confirmed the outage and said that the issue has now been resolved and the company is now working on restoring services. The Merchants also reported being unable to complete the transactions to access backend tools, effectively halting business during one of the most busiest shopping days of the year.
As per Shopify’s official status page, the outage started around Monday afternoon and it affected the core services such as checkout, storefronts and admin dashboards.
By late evening, the company confirmed that all systems had been restored.
In a statement, Shopify said engineers had identified and fixed the underlying issue, ensuring stability moving forward. “We know how important this day is for our merchants, and we worked urgently to bring systems back online,” Shopify said. Shopify acknowledged the disruption and it also provided regular updates via its status portal. The company emphasised its commitment to reliability, noting that Cyber Monday represents a critical moment for merchants worldwide.
