Engineering and pharmacy admissions increased by 75.4% over 2025 while UG course admissions saw a 49.9% hike. Kolkata: The admission scenario in both BTech and degree courses has improved compared to last year, showed the latest admission data released by higher education minister Jagannath Chattopadhyay on Sunday.
Chattopadhyay told TOI , “In the last 15 years, students in Bengal had lost faith in the higher education infrastructure of the state. So far 3.9 lakh students have taken admission across 460 colleges in Bengal through the Centralised Admission Portal (CAP) and Decentralised Admission Portal (DAP), according to the data. Among them, 3.8 lakh took admission through CAP across three phases. The data shows that 2.6 lakh candidates took admission in govt and govt-aided colleges in Bengal through the online portal, an increase of 1.3 lakh compared to 2025. This year, 16,409 students took admission in BTech courses in three phases compared to last year’s 15,729.
But a new hope has emerged with the new govt led by Suvendu Adhikari. That is reflected in this year’s admission. We are hopeful of bringing in more positive changes.
Following the de-reservation of seats, the final phase of admission through DAP closed on Sunday, marking what is likely the end of UG admissions for this year.
