Kanpur: A 50-year-old woman died after a mound of mud allegedly collapsed on her while she was digging in Devaran Garhiya village of Farrukhabad district on Sunday morning.

After the other woman filled her basket, Kiran entered a pit to remove mud. However, the ground suddenly caved in, burying her under the debris. Hearing her screams, villagers working nearby rushed to the spot and pulled Kiran out of the debris. Police reached the spot after receiving information and sent the body for postmortem. The deceased, Kiran Devi, had gone with a neighbouring woman to collect mud for her house from a site located some distance from the village around 7am on Sunday, according to police.
She was taken to a Community Health Centre, but owing to her critical condition, doctors referred her to Lohia Hospital, where she was declared dead.
