DSGMC files police complaint against Kejriwal, AAP over Bangla Sahib protest

The emergence of CCTV footage has added a fresh dimension to the case

New Delhi: The Delhi Sikh Gurdwara Management Committee (DSGMC) has lodged a complaint with Delhi Police against AAP national convenor Arvind Kejriwal , party MLAs and workers alleging disruption at Gurdwara Sri Bangla Sahib and the circulation of misleading videos on social media.

In its complaint dated Oct 11, addressed to the Commissioner of Police, the committee alleged that AAP workers and supporters entered the gurdwara premises in a coordinated manner, staged a protest and created chaos.

DSGMC president, Harmeet Singh Kalka, said that AAP MLAs and functionaries circulated videos and social media posts presenting a distorted version of the incident. He said that Kejriwal publicly supported and amplified this narrative. It also alleged that political slogans were raised inside, violating the sanctity of the place and hurting the religious sentiments of the Sikh community. The committee has asked Delhi Police to identify the people seen in the videos, establish who organised and directed them to enter the premises, preserve the evidence and take legal action against those found involved. History bears witness that the Guru’s abode always keeps its doors open to provide shelter to the needy. “If the youth of this country protesting entered, the principle of the Guru’s house is that the sevadars would grant them shelter… BJP’s Delhi police, with their Taliban-like attitude, entered Gurdwara Sahib bare-headed and wearing boots… The Sikh community will never forgive the BJP for this shameful act. As soon as they gathered, they took out pamphlets, placards and banners from their bags and began raising slogans.”

On the issue, Punjab CM Bhagwant Mann had earlier said, “I strongly condemn in the harshest terms the BJP ’s police forcibly entering Gurdwara Sri Bangla Sahib in Delhi yesterday… In response, Kalka said, “The conduct of the police personnel is a separate matter, but protesters were allegedly provoked and brought into the gurdwara yesterday.
