Kolkata: An oil tanker travelling from Kolkata airport towards Barasat overturned on Jessore Road near Birati on Thursday, spilling diesel across the road and leaving several bikers injured.
Several bikers lost control while passing through the stretch and sustained injuries. It hit the road divider before overturning, according to witnesses. The accident occurred near Gouripur More, shortly after the tanker crossed Bankra More. A large quantity of diesel spilled onto the carriageway, making the surface slippery. The tanker driver and helper, who were also seriously injured, were taken to hospital. It led to severe traffic congestion on both the airport-bound and Barasat-bound flanks of Jessore Road during the morning rush hour.
