Following a major development agreement finalized in September 2026, the Kansas City Current women’s soccer team has plans to build a brand new neighborhood around their stadium on the riverfront. Backed by the team’s ownership group, including Angie and Chris Long alongside Patrick and Brittany Mahomes, this project increases stadium capacity by 6,500 seats to position Kansas City to host major international events like the 2031 FIFA Women’s World Cup.
In a press release, Josh Goldman, managing director at Palmer Square Real Estate, said, “The addition of Revel at Current Landing strengthens the district’s identity as a destination…It’s a social anchor—bringing together sophisticated hospitality, the energy of sport, and the rhythm of the riverfront into one cohesive experience. And we’d love to have everybody out for a drink and some food,” he said. Patrick Mahomes , the Kansas City Chiefs’ star player, and his wife, popular entrepreneur and investor Brittany Mahomes, have remained committed to their investment in the NWSL team, the Kansas City Current. As the Kansas City Current works on expanding the CPKC Stadium and building an entertainment district around it, there has been an update.
