“We received a memorandum signed by the villagers alleging that the octogenarian repeatedly raped his daughter-in-law for the last few months, as a result of which his son died by suicide,” Nutanbazar police station officer-in-charge Bikram Debbarma told PTI over the phone. no formal complaint has been filed so far, police said, adding that legal action will be initiated once an official complaint is received While villagers have demanded action against the accused. The incident unfolded in a village under the Nutanbazar police station area, where locals accused the octogenarian of repeatedly raping his daughter-in-law over the past several months. Police rushed to the spot, rescued the man and admitted him to a nearby hospital, where he remains under medical observation.
Tensions escalated after the accused’s son was found hanging from the ceiling of the family’s house on Friday morning, according to police.
