Agra: At least three people were electrocuted to death after a boring machine came into contact with an overhead power line while a borewell was being drilled for a submersible pump in Mathura district on Thursday evening.

The incident took place in Shergarh’s Siyara village when local villager, Mohan Singh (42), had hired workers to drill the borewell. Sultan Singh (27) of Gangroli, and another worker, Mohan Singh (40), were operating the machine, while Mohan Singh (42) was standing nearby. Dakshinanchal Vidyut Vitran Nigam Ltd, which supplies power in the area, released a statement: “A 33/11 KV electricity feeder supplying Siyara village is located in the vicinity.

The accident occurred due to the negligence of the borewell contractor/ workers while carrying out the boring work.

DSP (Mathura) Bhushan Verma told TOI : “All three died on the spot. An investigation into the incident is underway. No pole or tower had fallen. Electricity department is not responsible for the accident…”
