Kottayam : A 23-year-old migrant worker from West Bengal was found dead under suspicious circumstances at a shed near a boatyard in the Kallikkad area in Alappuzha on Thursday.
The men are S K Manirul, 27, Rakib Sheikh, 25, and Sirajuddin Sheikh, 26, all also from Malda.
Thrikkunnapuzha Police said his body bore injuries suggesting assault. The police said the three were taken into custody from Kayamkulam railway station while allegedly attempting to flee. Workers who arrived at the boatyard around 9am found the shed locked, according to the police. The police said the six men had arrived in Arattupuzha some days earlier for fishing and had also taken up other works.
The deceased was Manjar Sheikh, a native of Malda district. In connection with the case, the police detained three of five men who had been staying with the deceased in the shed. When repeated calls to those inside went unanswered, they broke open the lock and discovered Sheikh’s body. A subsequent search led to the recovery of the shed’s key, which had reportedly been abandoned on the lakeside. They moved into the shed two days ago.
