Agra : A 25-year-old man was sentenced to rigorous life imprisonment along with a Rs 1 lakh fine by a Pocso court in Mainpuri Tuesday for the rape and murder of his 16-year-old cousin in 2025. Suspecting their involvement, based on a complaint by the girl’s father, an FIR was registered under BNS sections 103 (murder), 70 (2) (gang rape) along with Pocso Act.
The court stated that the convict’s actions “were not just criminal but a deep assault on the moral fabric of society”. During the trial, the court of judge Jahendra Pal Singh held the main accused “culpable for the rape and murder”, while acquitting the father and brother-in-law for “insufficient evidence”, according to special public prosecutor Shailendri Rajput. Notably, the judge took a stern view of the betrayal and the effort to cover it up, stating that “a simple life term would be insufficient given the gravity of the offence”. It stated that “the life imprisonment shall extend for the convict’s entire natural lifespan, ensuring he does not walk free on the ground of remission”.
After investigation, all three were arrested; and they have remained in judicial custody since.
