Agra: Uttar Pradesh Police have busted a fake medical college and university allegedly being run from a farmhouse in Etah district since 2022. The operators allegedly collected around Rs 2 crore from nearly 200 students by promising admissions to professional medical and nursing courses.
Fees allegedly varied between Rs 30,000 and Rs 1.75 lakh. Police sources said 54 students were enrolled for the current session. On Sept 16, a man claimed that his brother, Satendra Kumar, had been abducted and that the kidnappers were demanding a ransom of Rs 2 lakh. A fresh case has been registered in connection with the bogus institution under BNS sections 318, 338 and 340, relating to cheating, forgery and the use of forged documents or electronic records.
Etah ASP Shwetabh Pandey said, “The racket came to light during an investigation into a reported kidnapping and extortion case. The investigation revealed that the kidnapping had allegedly been staged to intimidate students who had begun demanding refunds after suspecting that they had been cheated, police said. The institution, identified as BS College, targeted students from Etah, Kasganj, Aligarh, Agra and Hathras, according to police. People were allegedly lured into admitting their children there, and Satendra was found to be a key player in the fraudulent operation,” Pandey said. It offered courses including DPharma, BPharma, BSc Nursing, ANM and GNM, with programmes ranging from one to three years. The operators also allegedly issued fabricated marksheets, certificates and other educational documents. Satendra’s wife subsequently lodged a formal complaint at Marhara police station. “The investigation into the extortion case led to the unearthing of the fake medical and nursing college. Five men—Satendra Kumar, Bhagwan Das, Narendra Kumar, Gaurav Agrawal and Mohammad Sharif Qureshi—have been arrested. Police have formed a team to determine the total number of fraudulent marksheets issued by the fake institution, trace possible external links and investigate how the operation affected the academic futures of the enrolled students.
