Ahmedabad: A 50-year-old farmer was shot in the right leg after a dispute over a sound system at a garba event in Varsoda village of Mansa taluka. Doctors at Ahmedabad Civil Hospital have advised him to undergo surgery.

Around 8.30pm that day, the farmer heard a commotion near his house and stepped outside. The men allegedly threatened to kill him if he reported the incident and fled. An argument over the music broke out, after which the men left. Fearing a confrontation, he called the police helpline. When a police team arrived, the men fled. He saw the four men with three others — one was allegedly carrying a firearm, while others had sickles and iron pipes. His brother reached the spot soon after. The farmer was first taken to Gandhinagar Civil Hospital and later shifted to Ahmedabad Civil Hospital.

The farmer, Arvindsinh Chavda, approached Mansa police on Wednesday to file a complaint against seven people, three of whom have not been identified. The dispute began on Sunday when four men objected to a sound system his nephew installed at the village garba event, according to the complaint. On Tuesday, the farmer’s nephew spotted the four men near a village dairy.
