Ahmedabad : Gujarat University (GU) has received 2,142 completed applications for PhD admissions for the 2026-27 academic year, with 1,134 candidates set to appear for the entrance test scheduled on Sept 26. The university recorded 2,586 registrations during the admission process, of which 2,142 applicants completed and submitted their forms. The university began accepting applications on Aug 25 after delays in launching the PhD admission cycle. It had initially announced 727 vacant PhD seats across various disciplines and later extended the registration deadline by a day after receiving a lower-than-expected response from applicants. The final figures indicate a significant rise from the nearly 1,700 registrations reported on Sept 9, when the university was still compiling applicant data.
