Gujarat University, Ahmedabad
Ahmedabad: The admission scenario in science colleges affiliated with Gujarat University has raised concerns, with more than 6,000 seats remaining vacant after the completion of the admission process through the Gujarat Common Admission Services (GCAS). A total of 9,612 seats are available across 27 science colleges — seven grant-in-aid, six govt and 14 self-financed colleges — affiliated with the university. Following the GCAS admission process, only 3,349 seats have been filled, leaving 6,263 seats vacant.
University officials and sources expect the number of vacant seats to rise further in the coming days as students who have provisionally confirmed their science admissions may cancel them after securing seats in medical and paramedical courses. This means that barely one-third of the total available seats have been filled so far. The situation is particularly challenging for science colleges compared with other streams.
