Gujarat recovers 50.7% of lost, stolen mobiles

Gandhinagar : Gujarat has secured the second position among large states in the recovery of lost and stolen mobile phones, with a recovery rate of 50.7%, significantly higher than the national average of 37.4%, according to data up to Oct 26, 2026.

Govt claimed the state’s recovery rate has improved by 9.7 percentage points from 41% in Oct 2025, reflecting the impact of technology-driven policing and coordination between Gujarat Police and Department of Telecommunications (DoT). Among districts and cities, Anand secured the first position for its performance during April-Sept 2026, followed by Dang and Ahmedabad city. The CEIR portal enables the blocking and tracing of lost or stolen mobile phones, helping prevent their misuse.

Officials said coordination between Gujarat Police and DoT has also helped curb the misuse of mobile devices and address cyberfraud. Anand cyber cell inspector Jaymin Dodia, Dang LCB PSI J G Anadkat, and Ahmedabad city ASI Bhaveshkumar Vishnuprasad and constable Harkindsinh Jayantilal were recognised for their work in tracing and recovering missing and stolen handsets. DoT’s Gujarat licensed service area (LSA), in collaboration with Gujarat police, honoured nodal officers for their exemplary performance in effectively implementing the CEIR system at a ceremony held on Tuesday.
