Ahmedabad: Gujarat University has announced the results of its PhD entrance test, held on Saturday, with 380 candidates qualifying for admission to doctoral programmes. A total of 1,126 candidates appeared for the examination. Among them, 216 candidates from the general category scored 50% or above and were declared qualified. Another 164 candidates from reserved categories cleared the test, meeting the qualifying requirement of 45%.
Preliminary estimates suggest that more than 600 candidates may eventually become eligible for admission after such exemptions are taken into account. The university currently has over 700 PhD seats across various disciplines. The number of candidates eligible for PhD admission, however, is likely to be considerably higher after candidates exempted from appearing for the test under applicable rules are included. These exemptions are expected to cover candidates who meet the prescribed eligibility conditions under university regulations. The availability of seats is expected to provide adequate opportunity for eligible candidates to complete the admission process.
