Gandhinagar : His Highness Prince Rahim Aga Khan V, who is visiting India from Sep 9 to 15, will be in Gujarat on Sep 11 and 12. Sources said he is scheduled to meet Gujarat chief minister Bhupendra Patel and governor Acharya Devvrat on Sep 11.
Since it establishment in 1983, AKRSP has expanded its network to 17 districts of Gujarat. Over the past decades, more than 70,000 farmers have benefited through irrigation works, more than 3,000 water harvesting structures have been developed and over 6,000 biogas systems have been installed. In addition, more than 75,000 farmers have been supported to transition to natural farming, over 200 solar-based irrigation systems have been installed by the institution and it has also facilitated more than 20,000 farmers to be engaged in fruit orchards and vegetable cultivation.

During his India visit, Aga Khan V is also scheduled to call on President Droupadi Murmu, Prime Minister Narendra Modi and union home minister Amit Shah. He will travel to Ahmedabad, Mumbai and Hyderabad, where the Aga Khan Development Network (AKDN) is involved in various development and community initiatives. This is the first visit of Aga Khan V to India since his accession as the 50th Imam of the Ismaili community. The visit to Gujarat is significant as the AKDN has been associated with several initiatives in the state, particularly in areas related to community development and social welfare, through Aga Khan Rural Support Programme (AKRSP). Headquartered in Ahmedabad, AKRSP established initial field programmes were established in Junagadh, Surendranagar and Bharuch, which included development works like lift irrigation systems, land development activities and forestry. AKRSP has been working in coordination with Gujarat Livelihood Promotion Company Ltd, Gujarat Green Revolution Company, Gujarat Natural Farming Science University, the water resources department and others.
