Netbanking details stolen, construction firm in Ahmedabad loses: The wider industry impact

Ahmedabad: A construction firm in Amraiwadi lost Rs 68.3 lakh to suspected cyberfraud after unidentified persons allegedly gained unauthorised access to its Yes Bank netbanking account and transferred money to multiple bank accounts.

The firm’s 36-year-old proprietor, a resident of Chandkheda, filed a complaint with cybercrime police on Nov 5. The fraud came to light on Nov 4 when the proprietor was returning from Dholera after work, according to the complaint. At around 1.30pm, he received a bank alert about a debit of Rs 10 lakh from the firm’s current account. 10 transactions were made from the company’s current account between 10.18am and 3pm on Nov 4, according to the FIR. The transfers included Rs 30 lakh to a Bank of India account, Rs 15 lakh to another Yes Bank account and Rs 10 lakh to an IDFC First Bank account. Other transfers ranged from Rs 99,865 to Rs 4.9 lakh. The total amount transferred was Rs 68,31,539, the complaint states.

He said he had not initiated the transaction. He immediately contacted the bank and requested that the account be put on hold. However, debit alerts for other transactions continued to arrive. He also informed his business partner and asked him to visit the bank. The complainant alleged that unidentified persons had stolen the firm’s netbanking data and gained unauthorised access to its account.
