Following this, she approached Vastrapur police and registered a complaint on Friday.
The complainant initially paid Rs 1 lakh as a token amount for a house. Later, after being convinced, she collected money from other members of her group and handed over a total of Rs 24.5 lakh through cash payments and bank transactions. On Aug 1, the parties executed notarised agreements under which the money was to be refunded by Aug 17.
The accused gained the complainant’s confidence by claiming that he was an AUDA board director and a retired Intelligence Bureau officer, according to the FIR. He allegedly told her that he had strong political connections and could arrange Auda housing allotments. The complainant and the other investors waited for the promised houses, but the accused allegedly continued to delay the matter. However, the amount was allegedly not returned within the stipulated period. A cheque issued by the accused towards repayment was also reportedly dishonoured.
