Ahmedabad: Gujarat’s overall Value Added Tax (VAT) revenue declined by Rs 1,061 crore in 2025-26, with the state collecting Rs 24,785 crore compared with Rs 25,846 crore in the previous financial year, according to data tabled by state govt in the state assembly. The figures show that VAT collections fell by 4% year-on-year, even as petroleum products continued to remain a major source of revenue for the state. Petrol alone contributed Rs 4,423 crore through VAT during 2025-26. State govt also collected Rs 1,040 crore in Central Sales Tax (CST) and Rs 1,328 crore through cess on petrol. The state collected Rs 6,575 crore in VAT from diesel, along with Rs 2,427 crore through CST and Rs 3,066 crore through cess. Together, petrol and diesel accounted for nearly Rs 11,000 crore in VAT collections during the year. Their combined VAT contribution of Rs 10,998 crore constituted nearly 44% of Gujarat’s total VAT revenue of Rs 24,785 crore.
