Gujarat Pradesh Congress Committee president Amit Chavda
On Sept 11, Banaskantha DCC president and former MLA Gulabsinh Rajput released the list of about 125 office-bearers of the Banaskantha DCC. If the list has been cleared, it should have been announced earlier,” he said.
The statement said on Monday that Chavda has directed cancellation of the appointments as “the list announced by Rajput had not received GPCC’s approval”. “Banaskantha and Vav-Tharad districts have been bifurcated and appointments for these districts will be completed in a short time,” the statement said. When contacted, Rajput said it has been about nine months since the DCC was to be constituted. Rajput said that under his leadership, Congress has been putting up a sustained fight against BJP and the party is stronger in Banaskantha than all other districts in the state.
Ahmedabad: There is a growing rift between Banaskantha District Congress Committee (DCC) and Gujarat Pradesh Congress Committee (GPCC) over the appointment of district office-bearers. “The Sangathan Srijan Abhiyan is all about empowering DCC presidents in organizational matters. I had received a phone call from observers in Delhi that the list for Banaskantha has been cleared.
The GPCC on Monday issued a statement, saying that Banaskantha DCC office-bearers’ list has been cancelled at the direction of state Congress president Amit Chavda.
Congress leader Rahul Gandhi launched the formal launch of the party’s Sangathan Srijan Abhiyan in Gujarat last April. The campaign involved choosing district presidents through a consultative process where observers visited districts, spoke to a large number of workers and provided the state and national organization with probable names of DCC presidents.
