K Annamalai
CHENNAI: Former IPS officer K Annamalai appears to be laying the groundwork for his next political move through We The Leaders, with the organisation set to launch the Dr APJ Abdul Kalam Centre for Ethics and Politics in Coimbatore and begin training around 100 women in grassroots leadership. The Centre, founded by Annamalai, will be inaugurated on October 15, with its first two-day Foundation Course starting the same day. The Centre plans to subsequently offer a four-week Leadership Academy, followed by a 100-day Field Lab, enabling participants to apply their training to real community and public issues.
The inaugural batch will comprise women from across Tamil Nadu, with priority given to those involved in We The Leaders’ grassroots, community and organisational activities. The initiative comes as Annamalai remains outside the BJP’s state leadership structure, with the new platform providing an organisational route to engage with grassroots workers and develop a pool of women trained in public leadership. The free training programme will cover grassroots leadership, ethics in public life, the Constitution, local governance, public policy, public finance, communication, strategy and organising. The focus will be on practical exercises, case studies, simulations and public problem-solving rather than classroom lectures alone. The decision to begin with an all-women batch is being positioned as part of We The Leaders’ Month of Women Empowerment & Safety, with the organisation seeking to move women’s participation in public life beyond representation to leadership and decision-making.
