CHENNAI: It was all smiles for students of classes 6-8 at Gandhi Gramam Middle School on Tuesday as chief minister C Joseph Vijay kick-started the Perunthalaivar Kamarajar Breakfast scheme. A total of 217 students had breakfast at the school on Tuesday. Serving pongal, sambar and sweet at the launch, chief minister also had breakfast with the students.
The scheme, which was extended to classes 6-8, is expected to benefit 15.30 lakh students across the state. A total of Rs 217 crore was allocated for the extension of the scheme, implemented by the social welfare department, this financial year. He also waited patiently to talk to me till I finished my prayer before eating,” S Tharshini, class 7 student said.
