New Delhi: A junior engineer with New Delhi Municipal Council (NDMC) was arrested for allegedly firing in the air while driving through central Delhi’s Rajendra Nagar in the early hours of Thursday. Preliminary inquiry suggested that the firing was unprovoked and carried out under the influence of alcohol.
The incident took place around 2 am in Bada Bazaar when the accused was driving a white sedan through the area. After receiving information about the firing, police rushed to the spot and apprehended Gagan Deep Singh (29), a resident of Old Rajendra Nagar. Police recovered a .32-bore revolver, two live cartridges, two empty cartridges and five additional cartridges kept in a holster.
The revolver was found to be licensed, police said. Originally from Kankhal in Uttarakhand, Singh was working as a junior engineer on an NDMC project in Delhi. Police have registered a case. The accused has been arrested and further investigation is under way.
